The premise of the movie (Avengers: Infinity War) for us was always that because of what happened in Captain America: Civil War, because Cap and Tony had fallen out, because the Avengers were divided. This is why they lose to Thanos, because they’re not together, they’re divided. –Anthony & Joe Russo
I need more ant man/Scott Lang content on my dash!!!!
Plus, I’m pretty sure when they started filming for Spider-Man 2 he was still in London, where they shot it. He could’ve easily come in and done some phone call scenes or voice overs for a empty suit. Is it really impossible that they are keeping it a secret whether he is in Spider-Man or not? Like come on, why would they say that, that’s a HUGE spoiler for A4 if he is in it… – part 2
So much is riding on SM:FFH because it’s the first MCU film after A4 (which is being peddled as the “end of an era”). I think it will be very successful because audiences have been super receptive to Peter Parker/Tom Holland. (But I could see Marvel’s concern at so much riding on its success.)
As for RDJ’s absence from SM:FFH, there’s so many scenarios that could be at play. Sure, he could be dead, but he could also be retired (at home with the kiddo), he could be injured/in a coma (a la the end of the Civil War 2 comic event), he could be trapped somewhere (like in an alternate dimension), he could simply be busy with some other business (with S.I. or saving the world or literally anything). I think it’s just easy to jump to the conclusion “Oh, he’s dead!” because he’s not in the picture.
Even so, like you said, we don’t even know if they filmed a small cameo with RDJ for SM:FFH. There’s plenty of opportunity when he could’ve done so–and it is not something they would advertise. What’s intriguing is that the person who posted the recent rumor that GP was gonna be in SM:FFH seemingly waited until Marvel gave the go-ahead to let him post it (and, of course, they greenlit the publication of the rumor). If GP is indeed going to be in SM:FFH, it seems like Marvel doesn’t at all care if we know. Same with JF being on set. It was out in public without any privacy (not like a closed set). They literally don’t care.
I think they want us to assume Tony is dead. Maybe because they think it’ll drum up interest. Maybe to mislead us. I don’t know, but they sure don’t seem to care we know about any of the other casting goings-on with SM:FFH.
I think you nailed it at the end, they want to is to think he’s dead!
Me: I’m not depressed! I definitely don’t feel depressed.
Also Me: *hasn’t done laundry in 2 weeks, hasn’t written in forever, took all week off work, horrible eating habits, doesn’t want to see people, barely leaves my room(which is a disaster)*
Me: I’m totally fine. no reason for concern
RDJ IS IN ATLANTA MAYBE FOR RESHOOTS OH SWEET JESUS
If you want reasons Tony will survive, here’s some:
Marvel won’t kill off their most bankable character. They’ll bench Tony in the event they need to pull him back out in the future for the cash grab. (I don’t think a lot of people understand exactly how marketable Tony is as a character; he’s huge overseas and a lot of people won’t even bother to go see a Marvel movie unless RDJ is in it.)
Tony has been right about every prediction he’s made so far in the MCU (literally everything he’s said has come to fruition), and he predicted he’d have a kid (and he’d be the sole surviving Avenger).
RDJ seems really attached to Iron Man and the MCU; it’s hard to fathom him shutting the door on it completely with Tony’s death as opposed to taking a seat on the backburner. (He could always do small cameos.)
RDJ said he wants Tony to settle down and have a kid.
None of the credible A4 leaks cite Tony dying. (In fact the most credible leak of possible partial A4 information cited that Tony most likely lives.)
If you want some sobering dark possibilities to ground you, here’s reasons they will kill Tony off:
The SM:FFH “Field Trip” rumor from a few months ago, which said Tony is dead during the events of SM:FFH. Some of it has turned out to be somewhat accurate, some of it not-so-accurate, but it’s still a possible concern. It cites that Peter is in “mourning” after Tony dies in A4 (though admittedly it says it “appears” Tony is dead, which could simply be a deduction because RDJ isn’t in the cast listing).
Marvel doesn’t want to pay RDJ anymore (he’s very expensive) so they’re cutting him loose.
RDJ wants to close the door on Tony Stark for good so he can dedicate himself to other projects (plus he said he doesn’t want to stay attached so long it becomes embarrassing).
While RDJ has said he wants Tony to settle down, he’s also said he wants Tony to go out in a “blaze of glory.”
If it makes you feel any better, I still am not convinced Tony is a goner. There’s plenty to say he will stick around (re: I think the reasons he’ll survive are more convincing than the reasons he’ll die).
But, in the event he does die? We know they won’t have him die in some terrible way. If he goes out, it’ll be a big, glorious bang. A true hero’s ending. Whatever happens, it will feel earned. It has to, because he’s Tony Stark–the main character of this long journey.
As a child my father would have Gamora and me battle one another in ‘training.’ Every time my sister prevailed my father would replace a piece of me with machinery, claiming he wanted me to be her equal. But she won, again and again and again. Never once refraining. Because of them, I am this.
