I can’t say this on Twitter so I’m saying it here. I don’t give a shit about the female empowerment discourse with Captain Marvel and while premiering the trailer, Good Morning America proved my point as to why. I fully recognize that Marvels first female led film is significant but I am no longer wasting my energy on narratives that serve white women and girls before anyone else. GMA celebrated STEM students with the trailer release and when the camera panned over, I saw not a single Black or Brown kid. So I’m good on the discourse.
My dream, my victory is a Shuri led Black Panther Panther film and celebration and support of Black women and girls in STEM. That’s what I’m saving my energy for.
I just want to enjoy Captain Marvel casually and escape the GRRRL PWR discussions as best as I can. I don’t wanna fake being excited for it for that reason.
AND it’s made worse by the fact that Monica Rambeau, a Black woman, was the first female Captain Marvel, not Carol Danvers. And this movie hasn’t proved to me yet that Monica will be anything more than a footnote so I don’t caaaaaaaare about no GRRRL PWR.
Just gimme the movie lol
