If they kill off Tony, I think it’s solely going to depend on the ending of SP: FFH if Marvel is still going to be highly relevant. RDJ not being in FFH could have multiple reasons, especially because Pepper might be in it and Happy is in it. RDJ has been filming non stop for Avengers last year and than spent the first half of 2018 filming for Dr. DoLittle. He might not be in the movie by his own choice, doesn’t mean he’s dead. – part 1

Plus, I’m pretty sure when they started filming for Spider-Man 2 he was still in London, where they shot it. He could’ve easily come in and done some phone call scenes or voice overs for a empty suit. Is it really impossible that they are keeping it a secret whether he is in Spider-Man or not? Like come on, why would they say that, that’s a HUGE spoiler for A4 if he is in it… – part 2

So much is riding on SM:FFH because it’s the first MCU film after A4 (which is being peddled as the “end of an era”). I think it will be very successful because audiences have been super receptive to Peter Parker/Tom Holland. (But I could see Marvel’s concern at so much riding on its success.)

As for RDJ’s absence from SM:FFH, there’s so many scenarios that could be at play. Sure, he could be dead, but he could also be retired (at home with the kiddo), he could be injured/in a coma (a la the end of the Civil War 2 comic event), he could be trapped somewhere (like in an alternate dimension), he could simply be busy with some other business (with S.I. or saving the world or literally anything). I think it’s just easy to jump to the conclusion “Oh, he’s dead!” because he’s not in the picture.

Even so, like you said, we don’t even know if they filmed a small cameo with RDJ for SM:FFH. There’s plenty of opportunity when he could’ve done so–and it is not something they would advertise. What’s intriguing is that the person who posted the recent rumor that GP was gonna be in SM:FFH seemingly waited until Marvel gave the go-ahead to let him post it (and, of course, they greenlit the publication of the rumor). If GP is indeed going to be in SM:FFH, it seems like Marvel doesn’t at all care if we know. Same with JF being on set. It was out in public without any privacy (not like a closed set). They literally don’t care.

I think they want us to assume Tony is dead. Maybe because they think it’ll drum up interest. Maybe to mislead us. I don’t know, but they sure don’t seem to care we know about any of the other casting goings-on with SM:FFH.

I think you nailed it at the end, they want to is to think he’s dead!
