James Rhodes did not fly 138 combat missions and drop a damn tank outside the Generalās palace for anon to be so painfully clueless about him.
If you want reasons Tony will survive, hereās some:Ā
Marvel wonāt kill off their most bankable character. Theyāll bench Tony in the event they need to pull him back out in the future for the cash grab. (I donāt think a lot of people understand exactly how marketable Tony is as a character; heās huge overseas and a lot of people wonāt even bother to go see a Marvel movie unless RDJ is in it.)
Tony has been right about every prediction heās made so far in the MCU (literally everything heās said has come to fruition), and he predicted heād have a kid (and heād be the sole surviving Avenger).
RDJ seems really attached to Iron Man and the MCU; itās hard to fathom him shutting the door on it completely with Tonyās death as opposed to taking a seat on the backburner. (He could always do small cameos.)
RDJ said he wants Tony to settle down and have a kid.
None of the credible A4 leaks cite Tony dying. (In fact the most credible leak of possible partial A4 information cited that Tony most likely lives.)
If you want some sobering dark possibilities to ground you, hereās reasons they will kill Tony off:
The SM:FFH āField Tripā rumor from a few months ago, which said Tony is dead during the events of SM:FFH. Some of it has turned out to be somewhat accurate, some of it not-so-accurate, but itās still a possible concern. It cites that Peter is in āmourningā after Tony dies in A4 (though admittedly it says it āappearsā Tony is dead, which could simply be a deduction because RDJ isnāt in the cast listing).
Marvel doesnāt want to pay RDJ anymore (heās very expensive) so theyāre cutting him loose.
RDJ wants to close the door on Tony Stark for good so he can dedicate himself to other projects (plus he said he doesnāt want to stay attached so long it becomes embarrassing).
While RDJ has said he wants Tony to settle down, heās also said he wants Tony to go out in a āblaze of glory.ā
If it makes you feel any better, I still am not convinced Tony is a goner. Thereās plenty to say he will stick around (re: I think the reasons heāll survive are more convincing than the reasons heāll die).Ā
But, in the event heĀ doesĀ die? WeĀ knowĀ they wonāt have him die in some terrible way. If he goes out, itāll be a big, glorious bang. A true heroās ending. Whatever happens, it will feel earned. ItĀ hasĀ to, because heās Tony Starkāthe main character of this long journey.Ā
Tony has always defended himself through evasive
manoeuvres, and never used shields.
Yet in Infinity War, he is using shields left and right. (The only time he shielded himself was in Iron Man 1, when he opened flaps in his gauntlet, and that was because he down low on power and couldnāt fly away.)
Tony realised that the team has lost a āshieldā, so he took it upon himself to become one. He built a shield that could withstand the power of an Infinity Stone. Because he always knew the fight was coming, a bigger threat is on the horizon and he needed to be ready.
Meanwhile, Tony designed new shield for Cap (despite all the Civil War mess), newĀ āmagicā belt for Thor (despite not knowing whether Thor will return), ensured Hulkbuster was accessible to Bruce (despite Bruce being MIA) and built space-travel-safe spider-themed nano-suits for Peter (despite Peter not being an avenger yet).
